Newham Borough - Shining Through Award 2008

Newham borough has a huge wealth of talented young individuals and many of them go unrecognised. These young children put a lot of hard work, time and effort and in return achieve very high results.

To celebrate Newham’s children and young people’s outstanding achievements, The Shining Through Award was introduced in 1998.

This year was a special year as it was the 10th Anniversary of The Shining Through Award and I am happy to inform you that Thangaes Waran Nithirajah was nominating for the Young Sports Person Award and Gurumu Elite Fighting Team was nominated for the Young Sports Group Award.

Young Sports Person Award & Young Sports Group Award
This award is made for excellence in any aspect of sporting or physical endeavour including competitive and non-competitive physical activity.

The Award ceremony took place on the 21st November 2008 and I have great pleasure in announcing that Gurumu Elite Fighting Team won a Bronze Award on the day and Thangaes Waran Nithirajah topped it by winning the Gold Award.

Gurumu Elite Fighting Team - Bronze Winners

Thangaes Waran Nithirajah - Gold Winner

This is a great achievement for the Gurumu Club and it just comes to show the quality of the Gurumu Team and what they can go on to achieve.

Christopher Sika-Nartey won the Young Sports Person Award in 2007 making this the second year on the row that a member from the Gurumu Team has won the Young Sports Person Award.
